With the advent of FT8, and the increasingly popular use of grid locators, we’re starting to see more contests using distance calculations. I didn’t know about the Makrothen (sounds like something evil coming to get me)! But it awards distant contacts appropriately and universally, instead of using the multiplier scheme which favors stations in rare locations – and those guys don’t need any more favoring.
Looks like you did well, Rich, and you remind me about the LOGTHENPOP macro which I haven’t yet tried out. (As I understand it, if you have more than one station calling you, N1MM will build a list of them, and then smoothly call on the next station as you sign off with the last.)
But the most interesting thing in your email was your participation in the SO2R (single op, 2 radios) class! I’m guessing you tried that out since you’ve now got two antennas, but I hope you’ll expound on this.

Wow. This was a fun contest. The point scoring was outrageous. The exchange was the 4 character Grid square.
There were no multipliers, BUT the QSO points were based on 1 point per kilometer distance between Grid zones exchanged.
Makrothen is an ancient Greek word meaning “great distance” or “some distance away”.
I did a mix of S&P, and Run. I certainly saw the value in Running.
I had some Runs where my rate was 60+, but these only lasted for 20-30 minutes before losing the frequency. Some shorter Runs with rates down in the 20-30 per hour. [For Pete/K2PS: I used the "F4 NOW" macro about 5 times, working perfectly each time].
Conditions were pretty good with the Solar Flux Index (SFI) up at 160, and the Sunspot Number (SN) almost as high in the 130-140 range.
Hope to see some of you in the next RTTY contest (WAE DX Contest, RTTY) November 12-13.
