Tom;
I agree 100% with you! I am continually blown away at how well my flagpole vertical performs. It is a hybrid design that incorporates some of John Ellis design, Rich Erlichman’s design, and some of my own ideas. It’s both simple and complicated at the same time, but get’s it done! I have worked the entire world using it along with my new FTDX10 that hears things many radios will never hear! I tell people my radio can hear gnats wings in Kuwait. That literally is how good the receiver is that Yaesu built for we hams on modest budgets. I know modest for some, but not for others. Enjoy and building your own flagpole design is better than ordering one from that money sucker at Greyline! Don’t ask, it’s a long story.

Prior to moving here, I thought I’d have to give up HF ham radio or just use something like Remote Ham Radio. As I’ve said previously, I can not thank John Ellis, NP2M enough for his article on building the flagpole antenna. My buddies in MN are surprised at my signal strength as they listen in to me running DX stations while they’re using their beam antennas atop fairly tall towers.
