Hi Rich,

Actually the dual band Yagi would be cool because it’s something they could build and the handheld is really affordable. I think there’s a good story there.

With 5 operational FM satellites, we should be able to get something within the Radio Rodeo event though, just not sure when. The pass prediction tool I’m using only goes a few days out.

Let us do some more work before making a commitment to the school. Feel free to offer assistance in any area you can. Keep in mind the passes are only usable for 8-10 minutes a few times per day. Here’s an example:

Best to use 2 radios. Might be able to work the UHF up VHF down satellites with one full duplex radio, but that is only 2 of the 5 active FM satellites. We’ll need one person to aim the antenna, another to work the radios. I have a headphone splitter and 2 sets of headphones. You have to tune TX and RX in opposite directions to account for doppler shift as the satellite approaches / recedes. From what I’ve heard listening so far the satellites can be busy and the passes go quick.

I feel like someone at the meeting said they could bring their satellite rig. Could we arrange it? If so, I will let the Villages know and see if I can confirm their interest.
