Didn't expect to operate in this one at all, since my brother and
sister-in-law were coming to visit. So I never put up my 6M yagi. And then
at the last minute, only my sister-in-law made it down. That left me with
at least a little time to play radio, albeit with a 40M antenna (which loads
surprisingly well on 6M).
The bands seemed pretty good, although didn't hear anything from Europe, and
just worked a handful of west coast stations. The highlight was hearing 7
or 8 different Japanese stations (that's FT8 hearing, mind you). So it was
pretty exciting, but I have to think I would have had a fighting chance to
work one, with 5-elements instead of one. PSK Reporter showed no one across
the Pacific hearing me at that time. It was at about 6P Sunday, so that may
be worthwhile monitoring in the future.
Thanks to NK7U, W3US, and N0SMX who called in. Also worked club members
WB8PKK and NV9L up north, as well as K2DRH who visited here a couple of
years ago.
Rusty (W3US) and I discovered that we're located perhaps a bit too closely,
since our harmonics spread across the FT8 band. But making sure we were not
on the same even/odd time cycle took care of that. Congrats to him on the
top TVARC score!
Get your logs in, and be sure to show TVARC as your club. Maybe we can grab
another gavel.
