Very nicely done, Pete.
FWIW, and with deference to a few other ops, you have my vote for the best contest op in TVARC. But I cleaned your clock on 160M!
BTW, the first thing I did Sunday evening when I got home from The Land was shower and shave. This
contesting stuff is pretty grungy!

Well, that was fun! And imagine what it may be like next year when (fingers
crossed) 10M is open. For this year there was a minor 10M opening into
Europe, both days, but it was short and you had to be there at the right
time (the 16Z hour). But I'm really happy about 80M. I know I've extolled
the virtues of my KAT500 tuner before, but I still can't get over how it
transforms my 40M vee from an 11.0 SWR down to 1.5, allowing me to work 35
countries, while keeping the shack warm.

I wanted to talk about the improvements in band conditions over last year,
but figured I would just post my last year's totals at the bottom of this
email. The main differences were the 10M activity, and especially 15M,
which was open all day with extended EU openings. Surprisingly, 40 was
better too, but I guess my 20m score dropped a bit as I was able to spend
more time on 15. I'm always trying to operate on the highest frequency open
band since you never know when the gods of propagation will decide that
enough is enough. 20 is always open.

Looks like about 40% of my QSOs were via CQ; a bit higher if I exclude 80
and 10 which were all S&P. Roughly 75% of all my QSOs were European.

All in all, it was a pretty good weekend, getting over the 1000 QSO mark for
the first time here in The Villages. I had the place all to myself since
the XYL joined the rest of the family in Cancun, which was good but there's
no one here to feed me (I'm responsible for the dishes, BTW). It's a good
thing they've invented air fryers and microwave ovens and Stouffer's. (I
highly recommend their Lasagna with Meat and Sauce.) But I could do radio
without bothering anyone. Could occasionally take off the headphones when
S&Ping if stations were loud; change my sleep schedule whenever the bands
dictate; didn't shower or shave, and no one cared!

Congrats to George for a fantastic QRP score. I was only running 100X the
power. So, boys and girls, power ain't nuthin' if you don't have good stuff
up in the air! George even beat me out once in a pileup (and so did Ed,
K2TE). Followed him and Rusty, W3US, using the contestonlinescore.com
website. Rusty was beating both George and me Friday night, and he was
operating Single Band 40. Also ND4G and N0SMX were on there, progressing
along. I encourage all of you TVARCers using N1MM (and other contest
programs too) to get on the site to see how your competitors and clubmates
are doing. It really adds to an activity which is kind of insular, even
though you're talking to the world. Easy to set up, BTW.

Good to see many TVARCers getting on, and nice scores from N0SMX, K1LTJ,
K1CTR (very nice!), ND4G, K3ZGA (who worked Mt Athos), WB2ART, and N8RW
(worked 3D2 and YB on 40).

I was struck by how many stations are now using KWs. Used to be unusual
back in the day. And that's excluding the Italians (500W max) and the
British Commonwealth (400W max), many of which are more than likely running
KWs. Also how few stations were QRP. I worked five the whole contest.
Used to be many more.

73, Pete, K2PS
