Starting today is an interesting event, held specifically this weekend in
order to capture the VHF propagation possibilities due to The Perseids, an
annual meteor shower taking place right now (along with two other minor
showers).
I have no idea whether we'll have any success making meteor scatter QSOs,
but it may fun giving it a try. And it shouldn't be too difficult. Simply
fire up WSJT, set it to 6 or 2M, change the mode to MSK144, and give it a
try. WSJT was originally designed to make meteor scatter QSOs, due to the
short duration of meteor trails (from which our RF signals reflect). The
computer can make the QSO much more efficiently and quickly than two
operators on CW or SSB.
The contest starts at 11a Friday, and runs through 11a Sunday. Here's the
website: https://kv5w.com/2022/07/24/na-meteor-scatter-sprint-digital-rules/
We're not supposed to include non-Meteor scatter QSOs, but I'm not sure how
to know which are not. My experience with MSK144 is limited. If anyone has
some input on that, please chime in.
And let us know if you've had any success!
