Ed,

I'm a few miles from you in the village of Woodbury.  From your
description, my guess is something loose with the coax given that you
have no signals for random periods of time. Broken center pin, frayed
braid on the backshell, etc.  The fact that your rigs shut down or won't
turn on is not from coax issues but perhaps a faulty power switch if you
use a junction box.  (I had this happen years ago when the box just
died.)  Try the "wiggle and jiggle" test along the power chain with
either rig turned on and see what happens.  If you can, do the same with
the coax at the connectors.
