[TVARC] Ground Rod - Installation

You may want to check with the local  building code inspector.  The National Electric Code requires that ground rods be 8 or 10 feet long and ½ inch in diameter and have a approval seal near the top of the rod.  The ground rods must be DRIVEN into the ground.    The ground rod is also be driven so that the top of the road is below the ground surface. Some time in the past I read some place that all ground rods must be connected together with a grounding cable so that all ground rods at a house or building become one common ground. The local building inspector does not always require some of this, but suggest you call and see what they may require to prevent problems in the future if the property gets inspected due to some other work on it.
