[TVARC] spotting network

Hi John.
Good question. When the spotting network was originally set up, we suggested that people use ‘judgement’ on when to sent spots during ‘normal’ sleeping hours.
The reasoning was based on the following:
- Using text messaging seemed best since most people get an alert of a text near real time
- since spots were based on actually working a station from The Villages, others knew they needed to try for the contact asap
- emails tended to be slower means of communication since not everyone gets an alert real time about emails.
- since people tend to get ‘real time’ alerts for texts, it seemed inappropriate for us to text during “sleep” hours but we never set specific times. I have received spots during ‘early’ morning hours while asleep. Woke me up but I just turned over and went back to sleep - unless it was a country I needed 😄.
- there are two solutions that I see - just send an email on the reflector OR, if all agree, we can send spots on our spotting network at any hour. People can choose to silence their phone alerts at night.
- my personal vote would be - send spots 24 hours a day.
Any other ideas??
