So, we were all complaining a couple of weeks ago with a marginal Solar Flux
Index (SFI) in the low 70's, and no sunspots. What a change this weekend
with the SFI and the Sun Spot Number both over 100, leading one to believe
to be a terrific weekend of propagation. So what happened? I found 10 meters
DEAD for most of the time, (checking every daylight hour for an opening),
and it was a freak that I found one station calling a CQ, and about an hour
later checking again, I put out a CQ, and amazingly someone answered. I had
pretty much the same dismal results on 80 meters. Even 15 meters was
somewhat of a slog and nowhere near what I was expecting given the
propagation forecast numbers.
At least the Czech stations were on the bands representing themselves as
sponsors for the contest, with me snagging 21 for multipliers. And, thanks
to Ed/K2TE for a couple of contacts.
