Rusty,

The Elecraft rigs are more of a hybrid than a true SDR.  Many of the
knobs have multiple functions, as do the pushbuttons so there is a
learning curve.  The rigs do retain main settings such as power and
bandwidth as you change bands or modes.  The K4 (still to be shipped)
integrates a panadapter display like many of the new rigs today.

The Flex line is a true SDR since everything is digital and controlled by
a mouse.  The beauty is the flexibility in band slices you can view,
simultaneous bands you can monitor, and other features.  (Check with
Wayne, N4FP on all the details.)
