Fellow TVARC members,
All of you who are ARRL members should have received an email from our
Southeastern Division Director, Mickey Baker (N4MB), about the FCC proposal
to begin charging a fee of $50 for amateur radio licensing activities (new
licenses, renewals, etc.). Club members spoke with Mickey when he was a
guest at out September club meeting on Zoom. At that time Mickey asked us
to hold off on sending letters to our congressional representatives until
the proposal had been published in the Federal Register. That criterion has
been met, so it is now time to voice our opinions about this Notice for
Proposed Rulemaking.
Mickey's email to ARRL members included some talking points. If you are not
an ARRL member, and therefore, did not receive Mickey's email, TVARC member
Tony Hackenberg (K4QR) forwarded the email to all members of the TVARC
reflector. Therefore, I am not going to include Mickey's email here.
Instead, I am including a copy of a letter that was composed by TVARC Board
Member at Large, John Ellis (NP2B), that you can customize and mail to our
three representatives in the U.S. Congress. If you choose to do nothing, so
be it. But if you want your opinion heard, feel free to modify John's
letter, adding or removing talking points as you see fit. Make sure that
you include your name and address in the appropriate spots.
I for one am not particularly excited about having to pay a $50 fee next
time I renew my license.
73,
George Briggs, K2DM
TVARC President
