Subject: [TVARC] RIP Tom Grosvenor, NV1U
Members of The Villages Amateur Radio Club,
I am saddened to report that our good friend Tom, NV1U, has passed away. Tom had missed some activities in the last few days, so a health and welfare check was requested of the Lady Lake Sheriff’s Department yesterday. Our worst fears were realized.
Tom was a close friend to many of us in TVARC, and he was a strong supporter of the club. He served as an officer for a year, and he volunteered to coordinate Radio on the Square, even when he was brand new to the club. He had a way of engaging members and encouraging participation. Tom was a fixture at club meetings and events, including Radio Rodeo, Radio on the Square, the MS Walk, QCWA brunch, nets and Chicken Chompers (a weekly gathering at Chick-fil-A). He had an endearing, quirky sense of humor and was always ready with a story.
Recently, Tom had become a serious student of CW. He was a member of CWops (#2303), FISTS (#19407), SKCC (#18720) and the Long Island CW Club (LICWC). As a member of the LICWC Tom had been teaching a daily CW class to a number of appreciative students.
Tom liked to have a tag line based on his age at the end of his emails. After his recent birthday he changed it from “72 and I ain’t blue” to “73 and I’m still Me!”. Yes you are, Tom. Yes you are! RIP dear friend.
73,
George K2DM
71 and sad you’re gone!
