Howdy all -
new to The Villages, getting started on setting up the ham station &
curious on grounding here in TV. Previous locations in MI, SoCal, NoCal,
CO, KS & WY I drove 8' ground rods at the house corners & tied them
together with buried #4 solid copper Cad Welded, with a connect to the cold
water service pipe & electric panel ground rod as I went past them.
Looking to do the same here & have some questions ...
What's the soil chemistry like around here re longevity of buried copper
wire?
Conductivity of the soils themselves?
Any concerns with driving 8' ground rods re running into or triggering a
sinkhole?
Soil density/composition re driving resistance & recommended tools?
About how far down would I expect to hit the first layer of groundwater
table?
Any specific AHJ code requirements/permits/prohibitions to be aware of?
(already planning to call the local MissDig for flagging)
Any other pointers welcome, too ...
Thanks in advance,
Larry K4LES in Palo Alto Village
