Always a fun contest. My first one was back in 1962 - and you always
remember your first :) ! Those were the days when W9IOP, W4KFC, W3BES,
W3WPG were the Big Guns. I remember calling them (wouldn't dare call CQ)
and compared my puny serial number to theirs and just couldn't imagine how
they did it.
Well it's now 2020 and lots has changed. It was, I think, 40 hours back
then, and spanned two weekends. All logging was manual, and dupe sheets
were required to be filed along with the logs. Had to deal with drifting
radios, key-clicks, and bad fists, but that was the way it was.
This year, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it. Trying to save up XYL
credits for CQWW CW in three weeks. But I enjoyed what time I did spend.
The exchange is lengthy; one must focus much more than most CW contests in
order to get all the info recorded correctly, since not only do you lose
that contact, but there's a penalty in addition. So it's good CW practice,
regardless. My totals were 100% calling CQ, and so averaged about 53/hour.
Sections missed were DE, AL, ORG, PAC, UT, WY, and 5 Canadian sections.
Thanks to K2TE, K3ZGA, W3US who called in. Bob had an impressive total; all
that SKCC stuff is working!
