The first flag on my flagpole antenna was starting to shred and fade so I replaced it today. Does anyone know of a location in or near The Villages where retired flags can be taken for a proper retirement? I was thinking maybe a VFW post where I might also buy replacements with part of proceeds going to a Veterans charity or similar.
It is to not recommended just burn nylon flags yourself due to the environmental toxins given off by the materials.
Another option I found in a Google search is:
Stretch out the corners of the flag.
Cut the flag in half, vertically - do not cut into the blue star field.
Place the two halves together and cut in half, horizontally.
You will have four pieces of flag, one being the blue star field and the other three red and white stripes.
Put the flag in a container and dispose of it properly.
Any advice from our Vets?

Our Nation mourns for every life lost to the coronavirus pandemic, and we share in the suffering of all those who endured pain and illness from the outbreak. Through our grief, America stands steadfast and united against the invisible enemy. May God be with the victims of this pandemic and bring aid and comfort to their families and friends. As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the coronavirus pandemic, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, May 24, 2020. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred forty-fourth.

Monday, May 25, 2020 is a half-staff from sunrise to noon in observance of Memorial Day.
This national holiday is designated as a half staff day, however, it is different than other half staff days as it has two statuses:
* At sunrise, the flag - if not already on a staff lit overnight- should be raised briskly and then lowered to half staff ceremoniously.
* The flag on Memorial Day should only remain at half staff until noon, at which time the flag should then be raised to full staff until sunset.
As we celebrate this national holiday it is good to keep in mind the reason for its creation, to honor our men and women lost during war time.
