Thanks to Doug, W9DAL, I was able to try something better than my truck mounted “stationary vertical.” The Big Ear worked pretty well, but at 100W still can't compete with the Big Guns, so S&P was the name of the game. Late Saturday I started having problems with my Icom 706mkiig “rebooting,” which drove me nuts. It must have caught a Windows virus. :-) It was great to see 10M open up, and 15M was really busy for a while too. The 1Dx1D rule relaxation was a good move as it really boosted our score.
All QSOs were CW except K2DM and W9DAL on 20 SSB. On CW, K2PS was everywhere. :-)
It sounds like everyone had a good time. Big or small, don’t forget to submit your entry to ARRL and indicate The Villages Amateur Radio Club.

Comments:
Although 1D, and thanks to HoA, I have no permanent antennas, so Saturday
morning was lots of fun setting up a tripod and MFJ "Big Ear" for the
first time. Thanks to the suspension of the 1Dx1D rule there was no shortage of
stations to work; all QSOs were S&P. It was good to see 10M open, and 15M
was really hopping for a few hours. It was gratifying to see such a great
turnout.
