[TVARC] Field Day

Clubmates,
Field Day is this weekend.  As we explained at the June 18th TVARC meeting via Zoom, TVARC will not be having a group Field Day operation this year due to the coronavirus.  Instead, most of us who plan to operate Field Day will be doing so from our home stations.  Some will be setting up battery-operated stations in their lanais with Field Day style antennas in their yards.
This year provides an opportunity for many more TVARC members to get on the air and make a few (or more) QSOs.  At the June meeting we gave a presentation that explained the basics of how to operate Field Day.  The presentation has been posted on the club’s website (www.k4vrc.com).
I encourage club members to participate on the air.  Your participation can be as simple as making a handful of FM contacts on 2M or 440MHz using the simplex frequencies that are listed in the presentation.  Or, those of you who are heavy into FT-8 can utilize the Field Day capability of WSJT-x and make any number of QSOs.  Others can use their stealth antennas to make SSB and/or CW contacts from home.
Afterwards, all TVARC members who make Field Day QSOs are asked to submit your entries to the ARRL and to specifically list The Villages Amateur Radio Club as your club.
If you plan to operate FT-8, there is one configuration screen where you need to indicate that you are using FT-8 for Field Day.  I have attached it to this email.  Get to it from the main WSJT-x screen by clicking FILE / SETTINGS / ADVANCED.  Then fill in the areas that I have squiggly circled in red.  Once you do this, the standard messages that FT-8 generates will be specific to Field Day.  Any contacts you make will be logged internally in WSJT-x and also to any logging program that you have set up for FT-8 (like ACLog).
