Perhaps I should have followed Rich's (ND4G) lead and opted for the RTTY
contest this past weekend. Instead I went for the CQWW VHF contest on 6
meters. Conditions were not great. Made one SSB contact, 5 on CW, with the
rest on FT8 (not FT4). And for the most part it was slow going. The kind
of spotlight propagation famous on 6 was very much in evidence. All of a
sudden stations from grid EM10 in South Texas would jump up and I'd work
three of them, but not the surrounding grids...and then disappear.
Fortunately with FT8, I could work em from my easy chair and watch TV at the
same time. Did work PY, VP9, XE, KP4, and 9Y though. Maybe if I had put up
the 6M yagi things would have been different. But the 40M vee got me out to
the West Coast, so not too bad.
