Ed responded to my request for info on how YCCC was able to erect all these
temporary towers for the WRTC event, and he answered below.  But I was still
a bit unclear as to the "falling derrick" method, so I found this video of
YCCC actually doing it - and in the rain!  I couldn't pick out Ed, but he
may have been there.  Were you, Ed?

Hi Pete.  What YCCC did was borrow a technique that the Russians used in
the 2010 event.  It is called the Falling Derrick approach where a tower
is erected on the ground on a tilt plate.  A long, segmented pole with a
pulley system is fitted into the tilt plate.  A hand crank is anchored to
the ground about 1.5 times the distance from the tilt plate.  A long rope
runs from near the top of the tower through the pulleys to the crank. 
The tower is hoisted up a few feet to install the beam in a rotator and
cross arms with the wire antennas.  Once ready, the whole this is slowly
cranked up.  The YCCC towers were 40 feet tall.

I was given one of the assembly kits as "spoils of war" after the
contest.  I donated it to my club for future use.  Since then, the club
has expanded it to 60 feet with additional tubing and supports so that
they can easily put it up for Field Day.  I'm sure you can google
"Falling Derrick method" and get more info.  I remember a video of a guy
in Poland erecting a 100-foot tower using a tractor to pull it up, hi.
