Man, there were a LOT of TVARC members on in this contest. I worked at
least 10 of you, and I was only a part-time player, CW only, high power.
It has been well-documented that I missed the Friday night opening during
which Pete made over 400 Qs and Rusty made over
250. In my defense I can only say that my plan for Friday was to work one
or two hours and head home for bed. The big opening
started about the time I passed the Turnpike on my way up 301. I had fought
to make 39 Qs in the hour that I operated.
My plan for Saturday was to operate from around 8:30 to 11:30 in case there
was an opening to Europe. I should note that a
component of my plan was to ONLY call CQ - I did no searching and pouncing
at all. Although I had no opening to Europe on
Saturday, my brother Jeff, VY2ZM, later told me that he saw me spotted by a
couple of European stations. Hmmm. However,
I was able to make over 300 Qs on Saturday morning. Perhaps if I had been
S&Ping I might have heard Europe.
I went back this morning for a couple of hours with a goal of reaching 400
Qs. What a hoot - my 400th contact was HG8W!
Europe at last! But I had reached my goal, so I pulled the switch and went
home for good.
I had a fun stretch this morning when I worked a bunch of 'O' stations - at
least 6 Ohio and Ontario stations in a row. That's 10M
for you.
Another fun part of the weekend was watching Pete's contact total climb on
contestonlinescore.com. Pretty impressive for low
power.
73,
George K2DM
