Hi Members of TVARC’s MailList,
The Salvation Army’s Tactical Amateur Radio Net (SATERN) is activating for Hurricane Laura (see net schedule below). You do NOT need to be a member of SATERN to participate in their nets. However, since the these activated nets are focused on helping the areas directly impacted by this major hurricane, you should LISTEN awhile to get the flavor and feel of what the Net Control Station (NECOS) is looking for.
So, LISTEN long & hard BEFORE you even think about transmitting. You can learn a lot about emergency communication protocols by just listening. If the NECOS asks for specific help, or information, that you can provide then by all means check into the net and lend your assistance. The NECOS always relies on your extra pair of ears because you may hear a station calling for help that he/she does not; so, you can offer the NECOS your assistance as a “relay”.
We sincerely hope that those in the direct path of Hurricane Laura will escape injury.
Stay safe.
73,
Tony/K4QR

> Digital Net: SATERN HQ has also announced that the SATERN International Digital Net will be on that air at the same time as the 20m phone net.
>
> The digital net is reported to be on 14.065 MHz, using Olivia 16/1k, appearing at 1500 Hz offset on the waterfall. Using FLdigi, turn ON RxID, so FLdigi automatically change to the transmitted mode, but turn OFF TxID, or you may inadvertently change all others listening.
