Hi Members of TVARC’s Maillist,
Sorry, if this gets sent twice. I sent the first one from another email
address that the maillist’s robot probably rejected; so, I’m sending it
again from my primary email address.
FYI...“Hurricane Watch Net“ (HWN) schedule for storms “Marco” and “Laura”.
CAVEAT: Unless you are an official member of this net, JUST LISTEN; do NOT
transmit unless you are specifically asked to!
Although these storms do NOT pose any threat to our Central Florida area,
you may want to listen in to the HWN to improve your emergency
communication skills.
Stay safe.
73,
Tony/K4QR

*Subject:* *Activation of the Hurricane Watch Net*
Hello to all
I have receive a notice from the Hurricane Watch Net this morning & below
is a summary of what I received. Please keep these frequencies clear & do
not check in unless requested to do so. Only call in if you are in the
affected areas & can supply accurate weather information for your precise
location, related to these storms. Their web page is at:
https://www.hwn.org/
*Summary*
There are 2 Tropical Storms (Marco & Laura) in the Caribbean that “may”
become a Hurricane just before landfall. With Marco, this is a storm that
is forecast to become a Hurricane but “could” weaken to a Tropical Storm
prior to landfall.
Marco is forecast to become a Category 1 Hurricane later today (Sunday) &
make landfall late Monday afternoon <x-apple-data-detectors://7> or early
evening near Grand Isle, LA.
The Hurricane Watch Net plans to activate Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM CDT
<x-apple-data-detectors://8>(2100 UTC <x-apple-data-detectors://9>) on
14.325 MHz. At 6:00 PM CDT <x-apple-data-detectors://10> (2300 UTC
<x-apple-data-detectors://11>), they will move operations over to 7.268
MHz. They anticipate working until 9:00 PM EDT <x-apple-data-detectors://12>
(0100 UTC <x-apple-data-detectors://13>). The purpose of this activation
is to line up reporting stations for Marco as well Laura, which is to
affect this same region most likely late Wednesday – early Thursday.
On Monday, August 24 <x-apple-data-detectors://16>, they will reactivate
their net at 8:00 AM CDT <x-apple-data-detectors://17> (1300 UTC
<x-apple-data-detectors://18>) on 14.325 MHz to collect & forward surface
reports to the forecasters at the National Hurricane Center.
As always, we are praying & hoping for the best yet preparing for the worst.
Stay safe, Ken G
