Reminder again - FQP starting at noon tomorrow! And late info just received
from last week's Georgia QSO Party is that they got over 600 logs submitted,
even without mobiles - a new record. So activity ought to be off the charts
for the FQP.
A few details to consider:
Even if you want to enter the CW-only category, if things slow down there's
no problem with going up the band, dusting off that microphone, and making a
few contacts on SSB. (I tell you this because I'm planning to use both
modes)! The log checkers will ignore any mode different from your claimed
class.
You may encounter a few stations that seem as if they're mobiles, since you
may have worked them earlier in one county, but now they claim a different
county. Well, these guys are not really mobile. Instead, the contest
sponsor has set up "virtual" mobile stations. These are callsigns being
shared, on an hour-by-hour basis, among various fixed stations, to try and
expand the number of Florida stations to be worked, and try and make up for
the fun of following mobiles around. BTW, the previous years' Mobile
Windows have been suspended, so you may disregard them.
And finally, there's an online scoreboard. This is totally optional, but
it's a fun way to see how others are doing, in real-time. You can also see
a club listing of just TVARC folks, so it may be fun to give that a shot.
Two things you'll need to do:
. First, go to contestonlinescore.com and register. Remember your
login/password, you'll use it in the next step. Be sure to put your Club as
The Villages Amateur Radio Club (it's already on the list). You'll be able
to see our club score in relation to others, under the Clubs menu option.
. Then, set your contest program to broadcast the results. In
N1MM+, go to Config > Configure Ports, .> Score Reporting. Check off Report
Real-Time Scores to Server. Make sure that Score Reporting Server has
"score distributor server." Enter that login/password you just created and
you should be good to go! Wait five minutes and you can check to see that
your call is on the list for the Florida QSO Party.
One further tip: if you're using N1MM+, when setting up the program for the
FQP, the contest type is QSOPARTY. Lower down there's a place to enter FL
for our state and the rest will fall into place.
See you soon! Any questions?
