Hi Ed,
What you're describing sounds like my situation. But I know that it stems
from the pool filter electronics. I shut off the power to it over contest
weekends to solve the problem.

Subject: Re: [TVARC] High Noise levels on HF
Frank,
I have not been listening much on the higher bands because there has not
been much of anything there. What I do hear is a pulsating noise on 20
that shows up periodically during the day. It fluctuates at a 1 Hz rate
about an S unit. I have also observed a noise "mound" on my panadapter
on all bands that is 3-4 S units above the noise and 3 kHz wide. It
rolls back and forth across the band at a slow rate, drowning out all but
the strongest signals. I did a tuning run across HF and found it to
occur every 55 - 70 kHz throughout the spectrum. My suspicion is the
power distribution station about 0.3 miles down the road. I do not
notice it on AM in the car when driving past. (Not sensitive enough?)
Fortunately, it does not affect FT8.
