As some of you might be aware, I’ve been collecting FT8 grids.  And just coincidentally, today I got to the 1500 unique grids worked level.

But the reason for this email is that I’ve been following and working, in fits and starts, a French maritime mobile station, F5MYK/MM.  I first worked him on Oct 11 when he was somewhere in the Pacific (grid AN37), and have been tracking him down the coast of Mexico, through the Panama Canal, and now down the Atlantic Coast of South America.  Last grid worked was HH69, off the most eastern point in Brazil.  Apparently he’s now headed to South Africa.

I checked his QRZ.com page and he recently posted his itinerary:

Round the world - From Korea on Oct 4th then XE and Panama Canal. A few ports in Caribbean (HP/HK/6Y/HI) and a long jump (+/- 30 days) between HI and 9V via ZS starting around Nov. 5th. After this BY and BV then Korea again around Dec 27th where I should sign off !

He’ll call CQ, but WSJT has trouble handling callsigns with portable designations, so Francois will occasionally send “CQ F/MM HH69”, for example, letting us know his current grid.  He’ll operate on 15, 17, 20, 30, or 40 meters, depending on propagation.

Kind of reminds me of the old County Hunters Net (K9IA is well familiar), tracking mobiles form county to county.

Anyway, join in the fun!

73, Pete, K2PS
