Hi All,
(Villages residents)
(members of the Florida Contest Group)

re: new antenna restrictions in Sun City Arizona

Some of us are aware of the new ham radio antenna
restrictions in the Sun City Arizona community, but
few of us have seen the new document(s).

Remember, there are 10,000+ people who already
bought homes in the Sun City community and they
all probably signed the same agreement regarding
antennas in their CCRs. I question whether the board
of directors of that community can enact legislation
to retroactively allow something that was heretofore
prohibited.

In the Villages, many of us are fortunate enough to
have reasonable neighbors, and we've done a pretty
good job of either concealing our antennas or making
sure they are not "unsightly." We don't have an active
problem here.

As the Villages ARC, we have a letter from the developer,
Mr. Mark Morse, dated February 4, 2002, recognizing
our need for antennas but emphasizing his
responsibility as the developer, to ensure that
everyone adheres to the same agreement that we
all signed when we purchased our properties. . He
refers to it as "equitable enforcement."

There is a Florida statute that allows a 20' flagpole
regardless of any local HOA or CCRs.
(FL statute 720.304) We also have an endorsement
from Mr. Morse (reference the letter above) suggesting
the use a a flagpole as an antenna.

I would suggest that we wait for a bit longer and see
what the ARRL does. They are keenly aware of the
problem, and anything they would do would be on
a national scale, like PRB-1. Lets also wait and see
what happens in Sun City. That is strictly a local
issue and we should watch and see how it unfolds
there. No point in drawing attention to something we
don't have to.

73,
John, NP2B
