Clubmates,
Radio Rodeo is rapidly approaching, and TVARC needs someone to chair the event. So, Purpose #1 of this email is to ask for a volunteer to be that chairperson. Purpose #2 of this email is to announce that anyone interested in assisting with Radio Rodeo should show up at 5:45 before the March club meeting for what will likely be the one and only planning meeting.
So what is Radio Rodeo? It is an opportunity for TVARC to strut our ham radio stuff in front of hundreds of Villagers and non-Villagers alike at Brownwood Paddock Square. This year Radio Rodeo has been scheduled for Saturday April 6th from 9 – 2. Saturday is significant because it is the day of the weekly farmer’s market at Brownwood, so there will be a lot of people milling about. In past years TVARC has set up a few stations, with antennas, to demonstrate the wonders of ham radio to anyone who is interested – and generally a number of people are interested.
Past TVARC President Ron Adcock obtained the date from the Entertainment Department. Today I arranged for the tables and chairs that we use to be made available to us. Now we need a club member to pull this all together (quickly) to make it happen. The Radio Rodeo chairperson will meet with volunteers before the March club meeting to determine how many stations we will set up, what modes they will operate on, what kind of antennas will be used, who will provide all this equipment, who will bring other stuff, like extension cords, outlet strips, step ladders, tape, zip ties, bungee cords, etc.
We will also need volunteers to serve as ambassadors to greet and discuss ham radio with visitors. We will have sign-up sheets for prospective members and people interested in taking a license class. The Radio Rodeo chairperson will pull all this together. Have no fear, however, the Radio Rodeo chairperson will have a lot of help. I personally guarantee that said chairperson will have all the support he or she needs to succeed.
So, please, send me an email if you would like to volunteer to be the Radio Rodeo chairperson.
73,
George Briggs, K2DM
TVARC President
