[TVARC] FW: Topic Suggestion

I used an Alpha-Delta Tripod with Hustler mobile whip for over 20 years in TV until I moved this past March to Waterman Village in Mount Dora. I made about 10,000 contacts, mostly CW, during this time, and 100 watts. I had about 140 countries, WAS confirmed, etc. I operated on 40, 20, 15 and 10. Almost no 80 due to limited success when I tried. Much of the contacts were during contests where I was quite active. Was very successful with it while propagation was good. With the lack of propagation now I can’t say how good it is.

The Alpha-Delta tripod did not use wire ground planes. It has 3 aluminum plates which are about 3 inches wide and about 3-1/2 feet long that provided a ground plane. I laid them on the ground and running between the feet of the tripod stand rather than spread straight out from each leg. That did not change results when I tried both types of placement. I don’t think this tripod is available anymore – with all the aluminum was a little expensive almost as much as a flag pole.

Due to space for a shack in our villa and the physical terrain restrictions so I would not get signal away from my villa, I have not operated from Waterman Village. There is no restrictions on having an operation here.

Club mates,

Does anyone want to weigh in on this? I think we have at least a couple of club members who have tried this.

Subject: Topic Suggestion

Hi,

My suggested topic is if anyone has any suggestions or has tried using a vehicle type HF vertical antenna under 20’ for 30M and higher bands mounted on a tripod in TV with minimal ground radials?

Thanks,

Steve Buhrow
