Frank,

Chasing down RF gremlins is something of a black art. During my years
BTV (before the villages), I used an AL-1200 for the CW and SSB contests.
During the winter months, I would occassionally get interference locking
up the computer. My FT-1000MP did not seem to mind it much. I wrapped
my power leads and interface cables in a lot of ferrite cores to squash
most of it. I think it was a combination of the AL-1200 being old
(before RF spectral purity got tightened up) and a clear path from my
beams through bare trees on a ray trace bounce to the shack when aimed at
Europe. I never used the amp on RTTY because of the duty cycle.
Besides, I had plenty of antenna gain to run stations with 100 watts.
