The Hallicrafters SX-42A receiver that your operator is tuning was new in ’47.  (was he your Grandpa?)  That gorgeous Hallicrafters BC-610 to his right would be worth “fighting for”.  

If found at a hamfest today, the first order of business would be to hit both units with a bunch of Simple Green to get the nicotine off.
