In this one, limited to 100W, decisions needed to be made constantly – what band to be on, of course, but also, do we shift to FT4, where the back and forth is quicker, but where the software has less time to correctly decipher the calls and exchanges, or the more lengthy (twice as long) exchanges in FT8?  And the old questions about calling CQ vs. S&P are still there.  I did find that S&P was often more productive than waiting for CQ responses, but the downside was that I had less time to load the dishwasher!  I wrestled with what to do when my initial response to a CQ went unanswered – do I call someone else – or should I wait and try the first guy again?  Sometimes I’d find myself answering the wrong guy, and then things got really messy.  But we’re all still in a learning curve with this mode of contesting.
