[TVARC] Update: Activation of SATERN Nets for Hurricane Florence

Hi Members of TVARC's Maillist,

The Salvation Army's Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) has now
activated some of its radio nets to help handle emergency communications,
if any, from the areas being imparcted by Hurricane Florence.  These SATERN
nets are just some of the many amateur radio networks that are activating
to help with emergency communications.

Here's the latest details about those SATERN radio nets (as provided by
SATERN's Bill F./WB8BZH & Ken G./AG6SV):


SITUATION REPORT – HURRICANE FLORENCE
Thursday, 13 September 2018

ACTIVATION NOTICE for SATERN (Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network):

The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) will activate the
following Nets for Hurricane Florence:

1. International SATERN SSB Net from 1200 (CT) / 1700 Z through 1600 (CT) /
2100 Z today, Thursday, 13 September 2018 on 14.265 MHz with a backup
frequency of 14.312 MHz. It will then be activated on Friday and Saturday
at about 1100 (CT) / 1600 Z (immediately after the morning training Net)
until propagation no longer supports it or the Net Manager closes it for
the day.

2. International SATERN Digital Net on its regular frequency of 14.065 MHz
for the same hours as the International SATERN SSB Net. Operators are asked
to u se the FLMSG pre-formatted Weather - Hurricane form to report
hazardous weather to the National Hurricane Center. Only Hazardous weather
(damaging wind, tornadoes, and flooding) with measured specifics should be
reported it at all possible. Reports should be timely and specific to the
affected area. No general weather reports, please.

3. Southern Territory SSB Net beginning at 0800 (CT) / 1300 Z until 1200
(CT) / 1700 Z on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 13-15 September 2018 on
7.265 MHz.

Assessment of the need for continued activation of all SATERN Nets beyond
Saturday will be made by SATERN leadership based upon:

1. A continued significant amount of Emergency, Priority or Health &
Welfare messages being handled.
2. A request from The Salvation Army or one of our partners to continue.

The primary missions of the Net will be:

1. Receipt and delivery of Emergency, Priority (including specific,
immediate, timely severe weather information) and Health & Welfare messages
outbound from the impacted areas.
2. Support of The Salvation Army if needed or requested.
3. Support of our partners, including emergency communications partners, if
needed or requested.
