Clubmates,
A number of you have signed up on the club's website to participate in Field Day. Thank you!Just a reminder, you do not need to sign up in order to show up. All members are welcome whetheryou want to help set up, operate, take down or simply visit.
Plans have stabilized as far as stations are concerned. It is pretty much as it was last year.We will have one station in the conference room of the trailer. This is the primary station, and it will usethe club's call sign, K4VRC. The radio will be an Elecraft K3 with an Elecraft KPA500 amplifier, and theantenna will be a Cushcraft A3 triband yagi with the 40M add-on kit (so this antenna will work on 20M, 15M,10M and 40M). There will also be an 80M dipole.
This is the station that club members can sign up in advance to operate for one or two hours (or more if thenext time slot(s) is unclaimed. As of right now, a group of club members have asked for the 4PM to 6PMtime slot on Saturday afternoon. All other time slots are available, If you want to reserve a time, just sendan email to me. Slots will be allocated in order of requests received. During your operating time, you canoperate either SSB or CW, whichever you prefer. If you want to operate CW, I suggest you bring your ownpaddle. Logging at this station will be done using N1MM+ logger.
We will have another station on the bench in the main body of the trailer. The radio has yet to be determined, but I plan to have this station operating with an amplifier. The antenna will be a Hy Gain TH2 MK3, which is atwo-element triband yagi for 20M, 15M and 10M. We will also have a wire antenna for 40M and maybe 80M.This station is available for anyone to operate. It is especially intended for club members who have recentlyobtained their license and would like to make some HF contacts. Experienced club members will be availableto talk the inexperienced hams through each contact, as needed. Last year a number of club members madetheir first contacts using this station.
We will also have an FT-8 station. This station will NOT be part of Field Day. Rather, it will be there just for thefun of it. We have a number of club members who use FT-8 a lot. This station will be there for them to have fun.It will also serve as a glitzy demo station with the colorful waterfall, etc. The radio will be the club's KenwoodTS-450S using a Signalink interface and the club's laptop. NP2B is kindly setting this up and has already got itworking. The antenna will probably be a G5RV on the club's push-up mast.
So, that's the update. Comments? Questions? Operating time requests?
73,George K2DM
