Hi folks,
With the explosive interest in FT-8, I am sure the ARRL is going to come out with a recommended format for using FT-8 on Field Day!
I am going to send Bart Jahnke, the ARRL Contest Manager, an e-mail to that effect - since some clubs are going to want to start educating their members on this!
Should be fun!

Subject: Re: [TVARC] FT8 during ARRL Field Day I have found that if the station initiating a CQ gives an unrecognizable grid square, that the WSJT-X software does not want to deal with it. Thus, substituting 2A-NFL for EL98 might be a problem. However, I'll bet the software guru's could easily find a "work-around" for that. I don't think we need to worry about the new DXpedition mode however. While K4VRC is a "desirable" station, I don't think we will be that "desirable." ☺ I have a extra Tarheel screwdriver antenna with a base and controller which we could easily set up somewhere. Also doesn't the club have 2 laptop computers with Win 10 on them? I know Education has one, I thought we had another. If so, we could put FT-8 on that, set up one of the club's rigs and do a "dry run" sometime well before Field Day and have it ready to run at a moments notice. Does anyone know if the Club owns a second Win 10 laptop and if so, where it is? 73, John, NP2B

The GOTA station does not cost us a Number of Transmitter category; it is a “freebee”. Since we may have enough interested FT8 operators, we may be able to justify the class 2A operation (as Pete suggested), with the additional GOTA station not being time shared.I have read reports that N1MM+ already I am running v1.9 WSJT-X for FT8. When using the DXpedition mode, requires the other station to also be on v1.9. and as Ed stated, it is easy to edit the canned macro messages and change the report exchange to read as the FD exchange. 73,Rich, ND4G From: tvarc-bounces at mailman.qth.net [mailto:tvarc-bounces at mailman. qth.net] On Behalf Of George Briggs

Subject: Re: [TVARC] FT8 during ARRL Field Day Perhaps. We will have to decide whether we want a GOTA-like station available the whole time. For those of you new to Field Day, the GOTA station (Get On The Air) is intended forhams who are new to ham radio or who have never made a contact on the HF bands. It is very low stress, low pressure, and there will be an experienced ham helping thenewbie. It gives you an opportunity to gain some on-the-air experience. 73,George K2DM From: K2PS Pete Stafford <psk2ps at gmail.com>

Subject: [TVARC] FT8 during ARRL Field Day At last night's meeting I said I would find out if we could use FT8 during Field Day.The answer is yes! All digital modes are allowed. All we have to do is figure out how to send and receive the Field Day exchange, which is category and section. OK all you FT8ers, how we gonna do that? 73,George K2DM
