What a great group. Starting a little before 8:30 this morning, at least 6 groups of clubmembers set about getting everything ready for the 2PM start of Field Day. One groupinstalled an 80/40m fan dipole on the fire escape for Station #2. Another erected a G5RVon a fiberglass push-up mast. Group 3 installed the yagi and the 80m dipole on the trailer'stower while Group 4 attached our club banners to the trailer. Groups 5 and 6 worked insidethe trailer to get all of the radios working in time for the contest. Everything came togetherin plenty of time, and we really didn't experience any big problems. There were a numberof little problems, but these were almost all because the equipment was new to the operators.Once they got accustomed to how these strange radios and amplifiers worked, everythingwas better.
One big major problem is that the bands are terrible. Signals are generally weak, and there isa lot of fading up and down (QSB). Perhaps the nighttime bands (40 and 80m) will be better.
We can still use some more operators at Station #2. Stop by tomorrow and try it out.
Thanks to all who participated today and who are working tonight.
