[TVARC] Not So Braggin

Not a bad result at all, Frank! And the CW/SSB ratio is about what I’d expect. Until the relatively recent inclusion of 6M in HF transceivers, the band was used mostly by local ragchewers. Contesters are beginning to discover it and are bringing their CW with them.

The clash between FT8 contesters using the special messages and normal users really causes difficulties. It’s like people trying to communicate in two different languages. Joe Taylor needs to fix that. Let him know.

Subject: [TVARC] Not So Braggin

Well, after making a speech on a TVARC Contest Group at Thursdays meeting, I decided I had better do some learning and practicing for myself.

As some of you know I am a Mac computer person. However, the number 1 contesting software, N1MM, is not available on a Mac.

So, I installed it on a PC laptop - yes, I have a PC - just don’t know how to use it!! After a lot of trial and error, I used it for a few times this weekend in the CQ WW VHF Contest. I was limited to 6M but I gave it a whirl.

I was able to use N1MM for CW and USB but have not yet got it up and running for FT8 or other modes. For FT8, I reverted back to the Mac and sent ADIF files to N1MM.

Anyway, here are my results.

Band conditions not so good. Lots of QSB. Less CW operation than I expected. SSB got pretty active for a while on Sunday.

Now for the next contest!!!!

Just a quick note: Anyone interested in joining the TVARC Contest Group, contact either KA1AF, ND4G or K2PS. It is a new group within TVARC, for TVARC members, and no experience necessary. We want to make contesting fun for TVARC.
