Hi Members of TVARC's Maillist/Reflector,
On behalf of Gene King (KI4LEH; President of the Hog County Amateur Radio
Association), I am forwarding his appeal (see copy below) for volunteers to
staff an information table/display on ham radio at the upcoming Sumter
County Fair (March 2 through March 10, 2018). Contact Gene (see below) to
volunteer or for more details.
Although this is NOT a TVARC-sponsored event, it's important to support our
sister amateur radio clubs in the area. More importantly, it's important
to participate in events like this to keep amateur radio in the public's
mind (for PR reasons if nothing else). So, please consider helping out by
volunteering for this event at the fairgrounds.
73,
Tony Hackenberg/K4QR
TVARC's Secretary

Subject: Sumter County Fair - 2018
Hello,
I believe that it is important for us as amateur radio operators to support
our hobby by promoting the hobby in any public area that we can. Case in
point will be the upcoming Sumter County Fair. We were there last year and
thought we were at least successful and showcasing amateur radio and
answering some questions.
We have been asked to return again this year and have paved the way for
that to happen. Now I am sending this email out to you so that you will
know there is an opportunity here to help share our hobby and potential
community service to others. In order to facilitate a successful display
and educate people about amateur radio we need some volunteers to staff the
table. So if you willing to help out for a few hours (3-4 hour shifts)
please let me know as I will add you to the roster.
We will be in the 4-H Pavilion in the same location we were last year, not
the best, not the worst location but one of the only spots where we can run
our coax out the door to outside antennas. They said they will be routing
more Fair visitors through the area so we should have a greater
opportunity. There will be a Butterfly Display in there as well and other
4-H related displays.
If you volunteer, you will have to obviously work your shift however, you
also are able to either before or after your shift enjoy the Fair itself,
free admission for volunteering.
So, if you will volunteer please send me an email to K4HOGFL at gmail.com,
please let me know what time of the day you would prefer to volunteer, also
include a phone number please in case I need to contact you quicker than
email.
The Fair starts on Friday, March 2, 2018 and runs thru Saturday, March 10,
2018. I don’t have the specific times right now but the weekdays are
usually like 4:00 – 9:00 PM (what we would cover) and the Saturday’s would
be from like 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
If you are interested in and will volunteer for the Fair, we will discuss
it further at our next Hog County ARA breakfast coming up on Saturday,
February 3rd in Bushnell and you are welcome to attend.
Any questions please feel free to call me or email me.
