Hi Members of TVARC's Maillist,
Despite the prospect of dismal band conditions, I ventured forth and
participated in the "RAC Canada Winter" contest, which was held on 29
December 2018 (UTC). It's sponsored by the Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC).
My total duration working this contest was about 4.0 hours. I concentrated
SOLELY on 20 meters SSB. My efforts resulted in a paltry claimed score of
1,092 points (based on 16 total contacts amounting to 156 QSO points times
7 multipliers). Still, it was fun to work many of the Canadian provinces.
Band conditions were dismal for most of the time that I operated this
contest. After making only 2 contacts shortly after the contest started on
Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 EST, the band collapsed and I gave up around 7:30
p.m. EST.
Around Noon on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, I managed to get back to working
the contest. Band conditions were a bit better. I made 14 contacts from
about 12:00 (Noon) through 4:00 p.m. EST. Band conditions went "south" on
20 meters about that time. Since I didn't hear much on any other contest
band, I took a very long break. Returning from this break around 6:30
p.m., I tuned across the 20 meter band in vain hunting for a contest
signal. Mercifully, 7 o'clock finally rolled around officially closing
this year's RAC Winter Contest.
Here's my "brag" (actually a mere whisper) about my results in the recent
Radio Amateurs of Canada's (RAC) Winter Contest (ContestID: "RAC Canada
Winter"; held Dec. 29, 2018 UTC):
