Hi Members of TVARC's MailList,

At the Board meeting on September 7, 2017, the Board decided to sell four
(4) ham radios from the club's inventory. These radios were donated from a
generous member who wishes to remain anonymous. The Board and club
gratefully thank him for his generous donation. So, be sure you attend the
club meeting on September 21, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., to hear more about these
4 radios that will be on sale at the "swap table."

Also, prior to the meeting, be sure to stop at a bank ATM (or break into
your piggy-bank) so that you'll have the cash in your wallet to buy one of
these radios (checks will also be accepted). ☺

These are the four (4) club radios that will be for sale on the "swap
table" at that meeting:

ICOM IC-718 &
ICOM IC-V8000;
Kenwood TM-261; &
Yaesu VX-5R

John Ellis (NP2B), our club's Technical Coordinator, looked over the IC-718
& VX-5R; while Bob Averitt (WA3EWK) helped John by doing the same for the
V8000 & TM-261. They gave the radios a cursory look over and briefly
tested them to see if they are in working order and what, if any, obvious
problems they might have. Here are their results:

*ICOM IC-718:*
160 - 10 meter HF transceiver
Designed to be a nice, entry-level rig (also a nice backup, secondary rig)
Works BUT *ONLY puts out 50 watts* (instead of the factory spec of 100
watts)
The club's IC-718 is an older version; so parts may be hard to find.
No DSP module
Still in production by ICOM (New ones would cost around $600)
Manual & brochure still available online from ICOM

*ICOM IC-V8000:*
VHF 2 meter transceiver (primarily a mobile rig but could be used at home
as a base rig)
Works
No longer in production by ICOM
Manual & brochure still available online from ICOM

*Kenwood TM-261:*
VHF 2 meter transceiver (primarily a mobile rig but could be used at home
as a base rig)
Works
No longer in production by Kenwood
Manual & brochure available for download from third-parties on the Internet
But unable to locate the manual & brochure on Kenwood's website

*Yaesu/Vertex Standard VX-5R:*
Tri-bander (6 meters, 2 meters, & 70 centimeters) hand-held transceiver (HT)
Works BUT *FAILS to turn on most of the time* probably because of a "flaky"
on/off switch
No longer in production by Yaesu
Manual & brochure still available online from Yaesu

Additional Notes & Terms and Conditions:

Two of the VHF radios (IC-V8000 & TM-261) are only for the 2 meter band;
so, they will not talk to the club's repeaters, which are on the 70
centimeter band.

*All FOUR (4) RADIOS ARE FOR SALE "AS IS" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES!*

These club radios are being sold *AS IS* without any warranties, or
guarantees, whatsoever. John & Bob have exercised reasonable care in their
brief look-overs but latent (non-obvious) defects may still be lurking in
any of these radios. The club, it's officers, or it's members are not
liable as these items are being sold "as is".

*Pricing*. We are going to be pricing them to sell at the swap table at the
meeting. The exact prices will be posted on the equipment at the swap
table. As a ballpark estimate, you should expect used prices for this
equipment to be about $300 for the HF rig; while the other rigs should be
around $110.

*No Shipping*. TVARC will NOT ship these radios to the buyer. If you are
unable to attend the meeting but are genuinely interested in buying any of
these radios, then we suggest you contact somebody who is coming and
authorize them to act on your behalf.

73,

Tony Hackenberg/K4QR
TVARC's Secretary
