Mine was self-resonant between Piel?s and Black Label.  Ballantine would occasionally create high SWR on 10 meters.  My tuning elements were Schaeffer?s and Knickerbocker.  But then, I was from the mid-Atlantic area.  Others may have used cans according to their locale.

A ham would throw a party and furnish the beer. You could have a free beer under the condition that when you finished the beer, you had to solder your can on top of the last guy's can. And up she went ...? ?That's when beer cans were made out of steel.??

There was a lot of beer consumed at the beginning - as the afternoon progressed, things got a bit slower ... And then they started putting beer into aluminum cans. Some people just know how to ruin perfectly good construction projects ...? ??

ARRL Code Practice

Daily Morse Code Practice QST Source

Code practice text is from the pages of QST magazine, the League's membership journal.  The source is given at the beginning of each practice session and alternate speeds within each session.  For example, "Text is from September 2016 QST, pages 46" indicates that the practice session's plain text is from the article on page 46.

Morse Code Transmissions

Frequencies are 1.8025, 3.5815, 7.0475, 14.0475, 18.0975, 21.0675, 28.0675 and 147.555 MHz.

Slow Code = practice sent at 5, 7-1/2, 10, 13 and 15 words per minute (wpm).

Fast Code = practice sent at 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 13 and 10 wpm.

 <http://www.arrl.org/qualifying-run-schedule> W1AW Qualifying Runs are sent on the same frequencies as the Morse code transmissions. West Coast Qualifying Runs are also transmitted monthly by either K6KPH, K9JM, or K6RB on 3590 kHz, as well as 3581.5, 7047.5, 14047.5, 18097.5, and 21067.5 kHz.  At the beginning of each code practice session, the schedule for the next qualifying run is presented. Underline one minute of the highest speed you copied, certify that your copy was made without aid, and send it to ARRL for grading. Please include your name, call sign (if any) and complete mailing address. The initial certificate is available for a $10 fee. Subsequent endorsement stickers are available for a $7.50 fee.

BTW ? I had a heck of a time passing my General 13wpm test back in the 70?s. It was getting a 15wpm certificate on the wall from ARRL (W1AW) that gave me the confidence when I next went in and (finally) passed my 13wpm. I later did the same thing for the Extra Class test. With the 25wpm certificate in hand, I was able to confidently take and pass the 20wpm the FCC required.

You MUST pass the CW test!!

Oooops - wait one. I forgot what CW means - hmmmmm - guess I can?t pass the test. 

Wait I remember - it means CobWebs I think? Or was it ?? nah, could never be that.

I think you should check with Rich to see when the next CW Certification is scheduled!!

Yes, I used fldigi exclusively during the contest. It was quite an experience. My CW speed prior to Contest was close to 20 wpm. Fldigi did all decoding at the beginning. Slows you down just a little. Decoding was not perfect. Biggest problem was people with ?Bad Fists?. Decoding  CW generated by Macros was easy.
As the contest went on, my ears got better and I was correcting auto decode when necessary.
Sending was exclusively via self written macros in fldigi. I used about 32 wpm unless the other operator was sending nearer to 20 then I slowed down for them.
It was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had no negative feelings about using fldigi vs fist. Copying is made easier when the sending is good.
One comment: some using speeds in excess of 40 wpm appeared to be only ?slowing? themselves down due to either bad sending or difficult copy of call signs.
Hmmmm, that was a little wordy but you can see that I really enjoyed the CW contest!!
Congrats on your results in the contest. I also heard you and you were real smooth!
