[TVARC] CW WW DX CW

Wishing lots of good DX to those planning on participating. 

Quick question: Do most experienced stations look on freq or off freq for replies during the contest.
Most of the ones practicing during the week looked for calls UP and usually about 1 KHz - but some seemed more likely to reply to calls on or nearby their tx freq.
Any help would be appreciated.
I will be trying fldigi during the contest.
