Is there anything left of the radar site (Strategic Training Range) in Bismarck? Det 14, 1st Combat Evaluation Group was located there.

I was stationed in Watertown, NY – Also known for the 4th of July weekend Summers LOL

How about Minot AFB using the old AC&W radio poles?

George, well done !! I did so poorly in the CQ WW SSB that did not even get on the air this weekend. And, with regards to North Dakota being a state, rumor has it that Chuck, K9IA, has worked all 53 counties !!

Vy 73 to you and Karen. Happy Thanksgiving.

If memory serves, Pete (K2PS) mentioned at the club meeting that the Sweepstakes contest this past weekend

would be a good time to collect states for the club’s prestigious WAS standings. Having zero states and no

prestige, I decided to go for WAS in the contest. Phooey! I still have no prestige. But I do have 49 states

worked now. Does North Dakota really exist? Chuck (K9IA) what do you think?

I actually had fun fighting the QRM and repeating my exchange information many times. To think we can actually

work Alaska and Hawaii with our barely-adequate setups is amazing. And I heard a handful of other TVARC members

in the contest including K2PS, W4CRV (Chuck), NP2B (John) and KA1AF (Frank), and I worked ND4G (Rich) and

K4QR (Tony), so the club was well represented. I also have it on good authority that Earle (KM4ISN) found his

microphone and worked KH7XS in Hawaii to complete his WAS.

Since I was only looking for states, I passed up a number of contacts and sections. I finished with 159 contacts and

67 sections, having missed a number of Canadian and California sections.

All in all a fun time.

73,

George K2DM
