Thanks to all! Yes, I am president of the Ham Dem Radio Club, and it has my
old Atlanta call of W4MRJ.

What does Ham Dem mean? The local dialect on St Croix is called Crucian.
When speaking Crucian, you use the word "dem" (them) after the singular
form of the noun to designate the plural. i.e. Cows become "cow dem". More
than one mongoose would become "mongoose dem," etc. Hence, Ham Dem ARC is a
club made up of a plurality of hams! It may sound corny but explaining
"dem" is always a neat way to introduce people to the island and culture
that we have gotten to know so well !!!

So we look forward to having "QSO dem" with more Club members. ☺

73,
J

incidentally, the reason I am using the club call is because if I use NP2B
on FT-8 or JT-65, everybody will think that I am in the Virgin Islands.
Kind of like I would never use NP2B in the sweepstakes contest this
weekend, operating from Florida. There *may* be one station on from the VI
for the contest, but it is conceivable that there may be no "clean sweeps"
this weekend if nobody shows up from the VI. (and if there is only one
station operating from the VI, unless he sets up a contact, he won't get
the sweep!)
