Hi Members of TVARC's MailList (hosted by QSL.net @ mailman.qth.net),
See Gene King's appeal for help with an outreach effort to kids to promote
amateur radio at an upcoming 4-H Kids Camp in June.
I posted this on Gene's (KI4LEH) behalf; so contact him if you can help out

*Hello, *
*I am reaching out for some help, help in promoting amateur radio and its
many uses. Help in presenting to some 4-H Kids at their summer Day-Camp
coming up in June. *
*First I am hoping to find someone who has some knowledge in building a
Weather Balloon type device that the kids can do and launch, this year we
would talk about it, explain to the kids what the possibilities are and
plan it for next year’s camp for those kids who choose to get their amateur
radio license. *
*The 4-H leader also requested to know if there are still some inexpensive
radio kits that the kids can put together. She remembers do a kit when she
was a kid, she thinks it was just an AM kit. Anyways she is interested in
having the kids put together their own radio kit if they are not too
expensive, or they may just have to do one or two kits for the group. *
*So coming up on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, we will have a two hour block of
time (not sure hours yet) to talk with a group of 15 or so 4-H kids, 8-14
years old about amateur radio and some of the areas thereof. We will most
likely be doing a late morning or early afternoon as we will be following
their segment on building and launching model rockets. *
*We can use their model rocketry to lead them into amateur radio and space
and science; with the ultimate goal to get some kids to want to get their
Ticket. Then the plan for next year building and putting into flight one of
the Balloon type amateur radio / data collecting devices. *
*I figure the first half-hour or so we can explain amateur radio. Maybe
make up one of the (light bulb sticks to show the invisibility of radio
waves) so the kids can see the bulb light up as it is placed close to the
antenna of a keyed radio. *
*The point is to also tie amateur radio into the science and space avenues
of the hobby. *
*So, I really need a few folks who are way smarter than I am to help plan
out the radio kits, weather balloon device and help present to the kids;
are there any takers? And the few of you who have already said you would
help, if you have the knowledge in these areas please let me know. *
*We are trying to build the next generation of amateur radio enthusiast and
hobbyist, please join us in this adventure. *
*73, *
*Gene *
