Oh how true. Says the guy that got the stiff neck from leaning into his speaker, or getting the headache from pressing his headphones closer to his eardrums.

Rich,

Are you saying the “599” signal reports you were giving were not accurate reports? J

Folks,
John, NP2B, does it again! He suggested that, before I send my K3 with the “blown” front end
to Elecraft, I should check its performance on other bands than 10M, where received signals
were WAY down. So I did. Sonofagun, all the other bands were fine. So I began to look elsewhere
for a problem. I shoulda begun the entire process looking for an operator error. You see, the K3
not only has two main antenna inputs, it also has an input for a separate receive antenna. And
these inputs can be selected independently by band. Somehow, the RX ANT button had been pushed
on my K3. Since there was NO antenna connected to the RX ANT input, very few signals got
through to the receiver on 10M, like ND4G, whose vertical I can almost see from my back yard,
and K2PS who was using a 4-element beam at 25 feet. Phooey! If it hadn’t been for this issue, I
might have made 20 QSOs in the 10M contest instead of 19!
Thank you, John!
73,
George K2DM
