George,
Congratulations! You are the recipient of the dubious "Doh!" award! I
held it for a number of years when I first operated at J3A in CQ WW CW.
Being the newbee, I was relegated to 160. I called CQ for 20 minutes or
so, heard nothing. I then looked for some stations and found the SA guys
pounding in (naturally). I tried calling them but no dice in spite of
using an amp. To top it off, spots started showing up saying "Deaf!",
"Lid", "No RX", etc. One of the other ops saw this and came over to
check. We were operating mostly in subdued light due to power issues in
the building. He scanned the rig with a flashlight and noticed that I
had the RIT cranked up several kHz so that I couldn't hear anyone answer
me, hi.
I made up for it the second night by having a run of JAs on 80.
