[Tube-Swap] Need advice

I store my large stuff (octal based and bigger) in these plastic bin boxes
with the built-in twin lid flaps. If you watch the specials at WalMart or
at Big Lots or even Sears you can pick them up for 3-5 bucks each.
Miniature stuff I store in plastic shoebox sized containers with lids.
All of the above are made to "stack" on top of each other.
Adding more tubes to the "inventory" still involves shuffling tubes
from one box to another, but it is not NEAR as bad as having the tubes
on shelves! I keep a record (revised every now and again) of what
tubes are in what 'bins', so I can go to the correct box to find what I
want.

| I have a large collection of tubes and I want to store them where I can
| get to them easily. I tried storing them in numerical/alphabetal order
| in shelves but the problem come up when I get some tubes that I haven't
| had before and I have to move all the tubes down to make room for one
| tube in the center.
|
| How do the rest of you handle this problem?
