Hello! I'm a new subscriber to the list with what may be a very peculiar
question.
About 5-10 years ago there was a magazine article in Popular Electronics
magazine. It was a project for building a "novel nightlight" using a VR105
voltage regulator tube. Due to the gas in the tube, when it was given a
proper voltage, it would glow a warm orange color. I built one at the time,
but I was curious if anyone on the list here might be able to help me with a
slightly bigger project.
Since reading that article, I've been involved with some vintage ham gear in
one of the clubs that I am part of, and came across the 872A Mercury
Rectifier tube. I was curious if anyone would be able to provide
information that would allow me to make a unique "lamp" using one of these
or a similar tube which would emit a blue light. I have heard of it being
done before, but the individual that I asked about it cannot find the
schematic that he drew up for it years ago, leaving me with nowhere to
start. Does anyone happen to have the proper operating conditions for the
tube that will allow me to build a circuit for it? I would appreciate any
information and help that could be provided. I will probably also need to
find a base for the tube to be mounted on, as I don't believe I have any
4-pin bases of that type.
Thanks and 73,
Chris, N9WIV
