Hi Dave
       Thanks for your interesting post. I would be willing to bet the
reason for the lack of 9600 baud support is a combination of your
points 1 and 2. There were technical problems with the 9600 baud side
of things in which someone from the Uniden marketing dept saw an opportunity 
for releasing a 2nd model next year or whenever.

 On a slightly different subject does anyone know if Uniden plan to
open the spec on the 785's expansion slot to 3rd party developers ?
Plus does anyone know how the card containing the CODEC gets its data
from the 785 ? Is it given the data as binary from a DSP handling the
demodulation on the 785's motherboard , Does it get the baseband I & Q
from the same DSP or is it fed the IF ?? I know that probably no one
outside Uniden can answer these questions yet but they intrigue me.
